Wanlass Guest Artist for Theater
Born in St Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Patricia McGregor is a director and writer working in theater, film, concerts, and dance. McGregor has twice been profiled by The New York Times for her direction of world premieres.听
Recent productions include:听Lights Out: Nat "King" Cole听(co-writer and director, People's Light);听Skeleton Crew听(Studio Theater);听Good Grief听(Center Theater Group);听Hamlet听(The Public Theater);听Measure for Measure听(Old Globe);听The Parchman Hour听(The Guthrie);听Ugly Lies the Bone听(Roundabout);听brownsville song听(b-side for tray)听(Lincoln Center);听Indomitable: James Brown听(The Apollo); and听Holding It Down听(Metropolitan Museum). Patricia was recently concert consultant to hip-hop star J. Cole on his world tour and is developing a new oratorio with composer Ted Hearne for the LA Phil, Barbican and BAM. Other credits include听A Raisin in the Sun,听The Winter鈥檚 Tale, and听Spunk听(California Shakespeare Theater);听Adoration of the Old Woman听(INTAR);听The House That Will Not Stand听(Berkeley Repertory, Yale Repertory);听Blood Dazzler听(Harlem Stage);听Four Electric Ghosts听and the world premiere of听Hurt Village听(Signature Theatre Company). She served as Associate Director of听Fela!听on Broadway. For many years, she has directed听The 24 Hour Plays听on Broadway and has been the director for the HBO emerging writer's showcase.听 She co-founded Angela鈥檚 Pulse with her sister, choreographer and organizer Paloma McGregor. McGregor attended the Yale School of Drama, where she was a Paul & Daisy Soros Fellow and Artistic Director of the Yale Cabaret.
