To the Occidental Community:

The US Department of Education published its proposed new Title IX regulations () that govern how colleges and universities handle sexual harassment and sexual assault in the . The Department will accept comments from the public for the next 60 days (the comment period ends on January 28, 2019). Occidental, as an institution, will submit comments, but I strongly encourage anyone interested in this important process to do so as well. Attached please find a tip sheet for submitting comments from Ever-Fi, our sexual misconduct prevention education vendor.

No matter what happens with the proposed regulations, we remain committed to our goal of eliminating sexual misconduct on campus, and to the idea that the best way to address sexual assault is to prevent it from happening in the first place. The College remains committed to providing support to survivors and ensuring a fair process for all parties, which is reflected in our current policy.

I want to remind everyone of the on-campus confidential resources we have in place to serve and support our community. Survivor Advocate Marianne Frapwell (survivoradvocate@oxy.edu) provides free confidential counseling and advocacy to survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence; the swag外流 24/7 Helpline (323-341-4141) provides 24/7 confidential phone counseling and referral services; and Emmons Wellness Center provides confidential counseling to all students, including complainants and respondents. Our Title IX website features a complete list of available resources and more information.
